Graduating from West Texas State University, Lavern taught art and math in public school prior to opening her own gallery.  She has taught private lessons while free-lancing and pursuing a career in fine art.  She continues to hone her skill and has taken workshops with many noted artists.  Lavern has lived in Colorado since 2007, and has completed over 500 murals including more than 35 in Museums.

Lavern specializes in the relationships of people to their lands and loves.  The media she uses varies with the subject matter and the concept of the piece.  Lavern participates in group and on-person shows throughout the Southwest.
